RE: Why in the world....

I was running out of hot water after one shower with a 6 gal water heater. Discovered thermostat on tank was going bad. Replaced it with a 140 degree thermostat and have had no problem with back to back (not literally, but one after the other;))showers and have plenty hot water.

RE: RV's and state weigh stations

I'm hooked on this thread also. I've been through about 45 of the 50 states, including Maryland, Massachusetts, and New Mexico, and a few Canadian provinces as well, and have never even thought of stopping at a weigh station with my moho and toad. I have always believed they are for commercial vehicles only.

RE: Dead Battery Condundrum

The easiest way would be to simply jump the moho from your car battery. Once the moho is running, it will/should charge up your house batteries as well.

RE: St. Louis Arch

You MUST see the arch at least once. It can be a bit claustrophobic going up in those little cars, but well worth the anxiety.
As for RV parking, I followed the 'RV Parking' signs around the block and found no RV parking. The parking lot has a height restriction of 7 feet. However, if you go south on Leonar K Sullivan blvd (right along the river) past the arch about a block, you will see Bus Parking along the river side of the blvd. That is where I and many others parked. It's a short walk to the arch from there.

RE: Dang fuel leak on 454

I would be willing to bet it's a deteriorated rubber fuel line. They usually go bad where they are stretched over the nipple. If there is enough slack in the line, try cutting off about 2-3 inches and reattach.

RE: Repair For Gas Lifts on Basement Doors

I don't know anyway to repair them, but replacements can be bought at almost any auto parts store for a lot less than $50. I bought one for @ $20 at an AutoZone. Just be sure you get the same length.

RE: "Who's Going to Alaska in 2009?"

We plan on leaving mid-May next year solo, and first time. Have done and still are doing lots of research. Have looked at caravans, but seem too restrictive and do not have all the same interests we have. Hope to see some of you up there.

RE: Converting a Window A/C to Rooftop RV unit

NICE JOB, Professor! I have a similar situation on my motorhome...one 13,500 btu ducted A/C. So far it's been ok for the hot weather, but there may come a time I wish to add the second A/C. I will definitely keep this post in mind.
For the average DIYer, I would rate your project right up there close to a 10 in difficulty, especially not having the knowledge to work with A/C refrigerants, but will keep it in mind. Again. NICE JOB!

RE: Rocks that explode around the campfire

I know shale will explode when heated, at least where I live here in eastern Pa.. Shale contains minute (that means 'tiny', for those in Rio Linda) amounts of oil. When burning leaves on shale, it pops and cracks sending bits of it into the air.

RE: coleman plastic repair

Google 'ABS repair' and you will get a number of hits for ABS repair kits. You can also make your own by mixing pieces of ABS (from ABS pipe) with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) till you get a paste about the consistency of peanut butter. It takes a bit of time to disolve the ABS, but it's worth it. With a putty knife, force the mixture into the crack. It dries very quickly, so you must work fast. When dry, simply sand and paint. It will be as strong as the original ABS.
Here's a link to how to do it....... Click Here

RE: Clean Awning

To make it even easier, after spraying the clorox mix, roll up the awning and let sit for about 20 minutes. Requires almost NO brushing at all. Just rinse off.

RE: Cabot Trail

The best campground is the Baddeck Cabot Trail CG. It's right at the beginning of the Cabot Trail. I would plan on at least two days to travel around the trail. The campground is in an ideal location to do this.

RE: Walmart

Traveling the interstates alot, I find the rest areas start to fill up around 8-9:00pm every day. Due to law, the truckers MUST get off the road after so many hours behind the wheel. The rest areas are full, as well as the on and off ramps, with 18 wheelers. If they do not get off the road, they face a ticket and hefty fines. So, they go to the next best places to park, like Walmarts and other parking lots.

RE: V-10, Engine A/C or Generator-mileage difference???

For me, COMFORT is the deciding factor. I use whichever makes me and the DW comfortable. Have also used both at the same time in very hot weather.
